Frequent Column References

Over the years there have been several recurring features, phrases or events which in the column. Here are some (feel free to send in additional suggestions that you think make sense]:

'Bama Bangs- Probably the first thing from the column. 'Bama Bangs are a southern men's hairstyle that features prominent bangs for no apparent reason. Every member of MTV's Two-a-Days cast, Brodie Croyle and John Parker Wilson are some examples of 'Bama Bangs.

The beaver pelt trader of the week- We started this in one of the first mailbags thanks to a reader suggestion. The initial award came after I was amazed at consistent references to Auburn's Tommy Tuberville as a riverboat gambler. We needed our own cliche and it's sweeping the country via the award each week. It will be awarded here each Friday.

pink dolphin- A reader emailed me about this after I was terrified by all the bad things in the Amazon River. Known as the boto I've requested a Disney movie be made and asserted that the pink dolphin has the worst publicity of any animal on earth. I stand by this.

BGID- I have a beard and is a proponent of all things beards. BGID stands for Beard Getting it Done and it's pretty common now for fellow bearded readers (and me) to sign emails with a BGID salutation. It's my belief that men with beards are more successful than men without beards.

Florida Gator women and their alleged fat arms- I firmly believe that Florida Gator women carry six to eight extra pounds of arm fat on the back of their arms. After I made that accusation in a column, an Australian reader informed us that "Bingo Wings" was the appropriate designation for these monstrosities. The only current exemption to the Bingo Wing thesis is for the Kappa Delta sorority of Florida. They all have spectacular arm backsides. And backsides. This is no coincidence.

Civil War history- I'm a Civil War history buff. The SEC Coaches as Civil War Generals is coming soon. For now you should feel comfortable knowing that UT defensive coordinator John Chavis is often compared to Confederate General John Bell Hood.

Unmarried Pregnant Antebellum Daughther of CBS Sports
- Back in the old days of the ClayNation column, I said this represented my status at CBS. Now, I'm somewhat lower in the pecking order.

Great Tit-- The Great Tit is the official bird of the ClayNation. It has been spotted by readers in the Oregon Trail and frequently resides in Athens, Georgia.

ClayNation Apostrophe Rankings (CAR)- It's the firm belief of members of the ClayNation that apostrophes are awesome. As such the CAR exists. I'm too lazy to look up the top five right now but the current number co-number ones on the list is Ledasha: "Le'a" and "La-a". Granted the second one isn't actually an apostrophe but we're making an exception based on pure amazement.

ClayNation Hand Sign- At some point readers emailed wanting to know how to recognize one another at sporting events. We came up with this hand sign. (There are pictures of readers performing the hand sign with varying degrees of success. From the White House to the local bar. Feel free to send in your own pictures.) The hand sign is simple, a modified "You Can't See Me." Middle finger, index finger, and thumb extended, palm facing the face. Then wave the hand.

On Rocky Top When Clay Travis, acclaimed author of Dixieland Delight, decided to spend the 2008 season up close and personal with UT football, he—and every other college football aficionado—thought he was in for a rollicking ride with one of the leading contenders for the national title. After all, when the Vols kicked off the season on September 1, the defending SEC East champions were ranked 18th in the country. As head coach Phillip Fulmer prepared for the game, he reflected upon a coaching career that included an astounding 147 victories, two SEC championships, and a national title. With 34 years at UT under his belt as both a player and coach, the Tennessee native had just signed a contract extension that projected to keep him at the university long enough to become the winningest coach in program history.

Dixieland Delight There is no college ball more passionate and competitive than football in the Southeastern Conference, where seven of the twelve schools boast stadiums bigger than any in the NFL and 6.5 million fans hit the road every year to hoot and holler their teams to victory.

Man Book The newly favored man is not really a man at all, but a hairless, effeminate, germ-fearing, non-meat-eating, exfoliating, wristband-wearing woman of the worst order. We as men are told that we must embrace the sacred feminine in ourselves, even if it doesn't actually exist, and become the very quintessence of woman, plus penises. This situation is untenable. This trend must stop.

Vanderbuilt Law Clay Travis is the only former student manager in the history of college athletics to marry an NFL cheerleader. He managed to pull this off despite an irrational affinity for the television shows Dawson's Creek and My Super Sweet 16. While being raised in Nashville, Tenn., Travis developed a healthy obsession with college sports and Alyssa Milano. As a teenager his greatest accomplishment was taking a doo-rag wearing Luke Duke (balling as Tom Wopat) to the hole at the Nashville YMCA. In the midst of a stellar legal career during which he specialized in rewarding the unjust and punishing the oppressed, Travis began writing for CBS Sports's SPiN section in September 2005...
